Remotely Controlled Android based Electronic Notice Board

Electronic displays are used these days to display relevant information in a public place. It could be scrolling/moving messages or fixed displays in areas like railway stations, banks, public offices, etc. Notice Boards used in the institution/organization or public utility places require sticking of the various notices day-to-day. This project deals with an advanced hi-tech wireless notice board.

This project is implemented to display the information on an LCD using an android based mobile. The Bluetooth hardware circuit interfaced with the microcontroller receives the information from the mobile. The microcontroller is programmed in such a way that as per the signals received from the Bluetooth device it drives the LCD display. This microcontroller can also enable the display to scroll the message, based on the signal from the android based mobile.

SVPWM Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation

space vector pulse width modulation technique (SVPWM) gives the more fundamental voltage and better harmonic performance compared with other PWM schemes. It is the most popular method used to control the AC motor. This project employs six-stage switching points of the power devices in the inverter.

SVPWM is achieved by programming the microcontroller which is duly interfaced to three-phase six pulse inverter with six MOSFETs driven from the DC supply. This DC is derived from a single-phase mains or 3 phase, 50 Hz supply. A three-phase motor is connected to the output of the inverter. Pulse signals from the microcontroller drive the optoisolator. The Gate driver driven by the optoisolator triggers the MOSFET so 3 phase voltage appears across the load.

Long Range FM Transmitter with Audio Modulation

Frequency modulation refers to modulating the frequency of the carrier signal with the signal to be transmitted. It must be less prone to interference with other communicating signals and requires bandwidth which is twice the sum of the modulating signal frequency and the frequency deviation. This project develops a low-cost long-range FM Transmitter with audio modulation.

The FM transmitter has three RF stages as variable frequency Oscillator (VFO), a class C driver stage, and a class C final power amplifier. The audio signal output from the microphone is used to modulate the frequency output of the oscillator. In the output, we have used a stick antenna for short-distance transmission. To check the output of the transmitter, initially, the first preset is adjusted.

The frequency is adjusted to a range where no commercial transmission takes place. Then the FM receiver on the mobile phone is set to the search mode so as to get this signal. Once we give a gentle tap on the microphone, the sound can be heard on the mobile phone in the FM band. In case we want to use the Yagi Uda antenna, the second preset or the trimmer can be adjusted to set the impedance for the distance range selection.

Radiation-Hardened Processor-based Real time System and a GPU-based Framework to Explore Tradeoffs

The processors like radiation-hardened are very slow as compared with COTS (Commercial-Off-The-Shelf) type and also expensive. So, to reduce the costs, software methods must be used like re-executions of the task to offer reliability.

The reliability occurs at the high costs because of high hardening levels & degradation of performance because of the re-executions. Therefore, the tradeoffs should be carefully studied among reliability, costs, and performance. This project is used to implement a novel framework for evaluating tradeoffs efficiently and connect the GPU’s computational power.

This framework mainly depends on a probability analysis of system failure that connects the different tasks to the reliability of the system. Depending on probabilistic analysis & real-time deadlines characteristics, we derive design limits on the space to reduce in possible ways.

An Actuator Fixed by Ionic-Polymer-Metallic Composite in Mobile Devices

This project is used to demonstrate an RF switch which has some features like less weight, huge deformation, driving power is less & capacity of frequency-shifting. Once the experiment is done then the investigation is done on a bridge-style switch.

In this switch, IMPC is used as an actuator so that the copper sheet can be moved in up and down directions. Once the IPMC-bridge is deactivated, then the antenna is considered longer because of the connection of the copper sheet to the antennas. In the simulation results, we can observe that the frequency range can be changed from 1.09 GHz to 2.12 GHz & the return losses can be less than −10 dB at both frequencies.

With the help of a network analysis system, the antenna’s unique operating frequency can be changed from 1.07 GHz to 2.14 GHz once the IPMC is activated. In experimental results, we can notice the change in operating frequency from low to high. The IPMC lifetime within the air can be increased with the help of propylene carbonate electrolyte using LiClO 4. So, the switch like IPMC is the best solution for integrating antenna systems used in mobile devices.

Electrospun efficiency can be increased by using a feedback control technique in real-time so that the diameter of the fiber can be measured. At present, fiber morphology can be measured using post-processing methods like electron microscopy scanning, electron microscopy transmission. There are different parameters like polymer viscosity, the weight of polymer molecular, distance separation, flow rates, and applied voltages that are used for controlling the morphology of fiber.

These parameters are used through a control mechanism feedback and a MIMO control mechanism. So, a device was designed with the help of laser extinction tomography to calculate the diameters of fiber throughout the deposition. The device like LaD (laser diagnostic device) has been capable of measuring the laser destruction while scanning of fiber depositions by limited repeatability.

Density Based Traffic Signal with Remote Override in Emergency

Now a day’s traffic jam is the biggest problem mainly in the metro cities. Increasing usage of cars, bikes, and other vehicles, on roads, are the primary cause of the traffic jam. This project is designed to develop a density-based operation of the traffic signal lights to avoid unnecessary waiting time at the junction. It also has a remote override facility for emergency vehicles to avail of its way through in any desired way.

In this project, sensors are placed in such a way that IR and photodiodes are in the line of sight configuration across the loads to form as sensors to detect the density of the vehicles on the road by IR light obstruction method. This density sensing is a year marked as low, medium, and high zones. Based on these zones the timing is allotted to the signal lamps and it is achieved by the use of the 8051 microcontrollers.

The override feature is activated by an onboard RF receiver operated from the emergency vehicle handheld transmitter. This override sets the green signal on the desired direction and blocks the other lanes by setting the red signal for a particular duration of time.

Wireless Power Transfer in 3D Space

Wireless power transfer means transmitting the electrical energy without using the wires. Certain areas dealing with explosives or hazardous material, it is advisable to use the wireless power transfer method for their electrical power requirement.

It works on the principle of the high-frequency mutual coupling between the two inductive coils. The fields generated by these coils can be tuned to the resonance frequency to increase the coupling between these coils. The tuned magnetic field generated by the primary coil is arranged in the vicinity of the matched secondary coil within a considerable distance.

The main objective of this project is to develop a system of wireless power transfer in 3D space. It consists of two electromagnetic coils, primary and secondary. The AC supply fed from the supply mains at a fundamental frequency is rectified and again made to AC at a different frequency which is fed to another high-frequency transformer. This output is then fed to a resonating coil acting as the primary of another air-core transformer.

The output from the secondary coil of this air-core transformer is given to a lamp that glows at a considerable distance from the primary coil. The blub continues to glow brightly in the vicinity of the primary coil even with the movement of this secondary coil over a 3D space.

Ultra-Fast Acting Electronic Circuit Breaker

The use of conventional circuit breakers based on the thermal tripping, mechanism gives a slow response to the overload since these depend upon the time duration of the overload. The concept of electronic circuit breaker overcomes the difficulties by the use of current sensing in contrast to thermal-based circuit breakers.

This project is achieved by comparing the load current with a prefixed rated value. The voltage at the load side sensed by the resistor is rectified to the DC. This DC voltage is compared with the preset voltage which is proportional to the rated current value. Logic signals from this comparator circuit drive the MOSFET and the relay.

Load or lamps are connected to the AC power mains through contacts of the relay and the coil of the relay is excited by this MOSFET. So when the load increases, the lamp gets out of this circuit with this arrangement. Also, a microcontroller receives these signals while the relay is operating and accordingly it displays the information on LCD.

After that, the main concept of this project is to check interoperability among different manufacturing platforms. So this interoperability can be confirmed by designing a simple network using ZigBee physical layer & compliant network.

Automatic Irrigation System on Sensing Soil Moisture Content

The automatic irrigation system reduces the effort of the farmers in regular switching of the pumps to pour out the water to the fields by observing the condition of the soil. The sensing of the soil moisture content is based on the closed path of the current flow in the motor circuit. If the soil is wet current starts flows in the motor and while it is dry it offers high impedance to the current flow so the motor stops.

In this circuit, logic signals from the comparator circuit are transferred to the microcontroller. The microcontroller drives the transistor which is used to excite the relay coil and also sends the signals to the LCD display. As the two terminals which are placed in the soil of the earth form a closed path, result in the voltage variation across the comparator.

By receiving this high logic signal from the comparator, the microcontroller biases the transistor. This transistor excites the relay coil which turns the current to pass through the load by closing the contacts of the relay. The information on the soil and pump conditions also displayed on the LCD display by the microcontroller.

Cyclo Converter using Thyristors

Cyclo converter is an AC-AC converter which changes the frequency from one level to the other. These may be single or three-phase converters based on the load or motor employed. Frequency control to get the variable speed of the induction motor gives a better performance than using only voltage control by the AC regulator circuit.

This circuit is implemented to get speeds at three different frequencies i.e., the fundamental (F), half (F/2), and one third (F/3) frequencies. Dual bridge SCR connected across the induction motor consists of eight SCR’s as two bridges, positive and negative, and these thyristors are driven by the Opto-isolators. The microcontroller receives the input signals from the two slide switches to select the particular step of the speed out of the three steps.

Triggering pulses so generated by the microcontroller as per the program written drives the Optoisolator and further respective SCR to get turned ON based on pulse triggering. Induction motor speed is varied according to the switching of these thyristors by delivering lower frequencies of F/2 and F/3.

Minimizing Penalty in Industrial Power Consumption by Engaging APFC Unit

Due to the usage of the heavy motors in the industries, it causes the injection of reactive power which further results in power factor reduction. Low power factor operation makes the industries get penalized by the power companies. By placing the shunt capacitors across the inductive load one can improve the power factor.

This project automatically calculates the power factor and improves it. This project is achieved by calculating the zero positions of the voltage and current waves. Based on the time delay, the microcontroller drives the relay driver. Voltage and current zeros pulses are detected by a comparator circuit. These signals from the comparator are given as input to the microcontroller.

The microcontroller is programmed in such a way that based on the time delay it operates the relay driver so the shunt capacitors are switched across the load. The microcontroller also drives the LCD to display the power factor and time delay.
